A Snowy, Beach Day

Wow!  I didn't realize just how long my week was until after dinner last night.  We went and got pizza and made a Target run for a movie and a few snacks.  I know it's funny, but I still haven't seen "The Hunger Games" and I have really been wanting to see it.  We got home and I laid on the couch to watch television.  Next thing I know it is a little after 7:00.  Oh, not 7:00 p.m.  That would be 7:00 a.m.!  I fell asleep before 8:30 and slept until after 7:00 a.m.  Then, to top it off, I've already had a 3 hour nap this morning.

Here's the good news - I am definitely ready to create :)  Hopefully, I will finish my first word work packet today and get started on a Groundhog Day Mini Printable packet.  

Oh, and before I forget, yesterday went great!  My hubby and I ran to Walmart at 6:30 a.m. and bought 16 more small boxes of baking soda.  Later in the afternoon, I showed my kiddos the conditioner bottle as a clue and they just looked at me like I was crazy.  For most of the day, they thought we were going to do a food project, especially when I covered their tables with the red tablecloths.  I got out the two pans and sat them on the middle table.  One thing I learned is when you are using this many boxes of baking soda, you don't have time to measure the conditioner.  

First, My T.A., a 4th grade student helper, and I added 8 small boxes of baking soda to each pan.  Then, ended up squirting around a bottle of the conditioner into the pan.  As we mixed it, if we needed a little more, we added a little more.  After it was all mixed, we gave each student a pile.  It was definitely messy, but the kids had a great time and even with the messiness, it didn't take us long to clean up.  I had talked to our custodians earlier in the day, so I had a big trashcan in my room for clean up.  I'm not sure how, but by the time we finished my rugs were covered with it, the desks, the chairs, etc.  However, it was very easy to sweep up and wipe off of everything.  Not to mention, our end of the hall smelled like a beach.  According to one of my kids, they felt like they were at Cocoa Beach.  We decided we were having a snowy beach day :)

Here's a list of everything I ended up needing.  Everything can be gotten at Dollar Tree or Walmart.  

Things Needed: 32 small boxes of baking soda, 6 bottles of white colored conditioner, 2 roasting pans, a spoon or fork, and 3 tablecloths (1 for each table)

I used this with 20 kids.  You could easily make less if it was a center.  I'd also consider having baggies next year and letting each kid take some home.  This time, I threw it all away.  Another thing we did is we had the kids put on their art shirts.  This helped keep them from getting it on their clothes.
